What Are Open Graph Tags?
Open Graph (OG) tags are meta tags that control how your web pages appear when shared on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp. They determine the title, description, and image that appear in the link preview.
The Key OG Tags
- og:title: The title of your page as it should appear in social shares
- og:description: A 2-4 sentence description of the page
- og:image: The image that appears in the link preview (ideally 1200×630 pixels)
- og:url: The canonical URL of the page
- og:type: The type of content (website, article, video, etc.)
Best Practices
Use a high-quality image at least 1200×630 pixels for best display across platforms. Keep your og:title under 60 characters and og:description under 155 characters to avoid truncation. Test your tags with platform-specific validators before publishing.
